Coordinating conjunctions
Coordinating conjunctions are conjunctions used to connect words, phrases or clauses (independent clause) which have a position equivalent or similar grammatical structure of sentences. There are seven conjunctions are used: for, and, normal, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS commonly abbreviated to simplify the recall).
Note the example of the use of coordinating conjunctions that connect the word with a word, phrase by phrase, and clause with clause (labeled in bold are conjunctions, whereas underlined are words, phrases or clauses).
Example sentence :
1. You and I will come together.
2. It can be black, white or grey.
3. Most children like cookies and candy.
4. Lilacs and violets are usually purple.
5. I wanted to sit in the front of the balcony, so I ordered my tickets early.
6. It’s an old car, but it’s very reliable.
7. It was raining, so I took my umbrella.
8. The sun is warm, yet the air is cool.
9. I don’t care for the beach, but I enjoy a good vacation in the mountains.
10. Anggie and Meytha will come to a birthday party Keisha.
